How Fred and Ginger met the leopard whisperer

30 06 2010

Leopards in BotswanaAllow me to introduce myself, my name is Fred and I am a leopard living in the Savuti  area  of Botswana.

Even if I say so myself, I am a rather good-looking leopard. I am dainty, simply irresistible and on top of my game.  Even so, it’s a challenge to find a suitable lady with all the spots in the right places and who is worthy of carrying my children. As it so happened, I have recently found the lady of my dreams, her name is Ginger.

Cameras spot leopards within city boundaries

24 06 2010

LeopardSource: Cape Times, Monday June 14th 2010 – Craig McKune

NEW “camera trap” photographs, part of a project studying leopard populations in the mountains surrounding Cape Town, have confirmed the predators survive within the city boundaries. Up to 50 heat and motion-triggered cameras, set up in the Boland mountains, have been working “day and night” , rain or “sunshine” since March, shooting nocturnal and elusive animals from Porterville in the north to Betty’s Bay on the south. About 10 of these cameras, paid for by the City of Cape Town, have been set up in the mountains, near Somerset West, and late last week images were captured of an adult male and an adult female leopard in the Kogelberg Blosphere Reserve.

Tobias from Germany – exploring Cape Town and Jenman African Safaris

24 06 2010

Week 19 (14th – 20th of June)

We are now in the second week of the World Cup 2010 tournament hosted in South Africa and we are luckily in Cape Town which means we are amidst the buzz of it all! Everyone is still excited about the games and some South Africans are even evolving into proper soccer fans. In contrast to Europe, people here (SA) watch rugby and cricket rather and hardly watch much soccer. But since the World Cup started you hear more and more people talking about the day-before and the upcoming games – even the girls at work, which is quite a development ;)

Tobias from Germany – exploring Cape Town and Jenman African Safaris

17 06 2010

Week 18 (7th to 13th of June)

Feel it – it IS here!!!

No one who currently is in Cape Town would doubt that.

And you definitely feel it – no matter where you go. And yes I am talking about the Soccer World Cup!

You feel it if are trying to make your way to town or out of town… a trip that should be 20 minutes takes you an hour instead as some roads are closed due to the FIFA Fan Fest or you feel it in the queue at the supermarket where instead of a short queue, the queue starts a few meters after the entrance.

Open letter to our Foreign Media friends

11 06 2010

Dear World Cup visitors,

Now that you are safely in our country you are no doubt happily realising you are not in a war zone. This may be in stark contrast to what you have been bracing yourself for should you have listened to Uli Hoeness or are an avid reader of English tabloids, which as we all know are only good for wrapping fish ‘n chips and advancing the careers of large-chested teens on page three.

Our new 4×4 12-seater gets FANTASTIC reviews!

9 06 2010

Jenman Safaris VehicleRemember Jenman Safaris’ new 12-seater 4×4 safari vehicle ? What we didn’t know then was what everyone else would really think about it. To be honest we were quite bias and it turns out to be for a good reason.

Our brand-new addition to our vehicle fleet was exhibited during last month’s INDABA in Durban and caught people’s attention. So much so that one member of the industry even came up to us saying: “Seems that once again Jenman sets the standards and the rest of us will have to follow”

Camping only in Africa!

9 06 2010

Camping in AfricaWhile travelling around Africa our Jenman guides hear the most interesting stories and amazing quotes. Chantel (one of our treasured guides) was recently on a camping safari in Namibia when her one client turned to her and said:

“You can enjoy lodges all over the world, but you can only truly camp in Africa!”

We totally agree! There is nothing like camping in Africa – nothing can compare or even come close to the African sounds, clear sky and beautiful wildlife. Lodge accommodation is all over the world… but true & authentic camping can only be done in Africa!

Thanks to this special client for sharing this with us.
