Audrey D’Angelo cautions travelers to allow for delays when making their arrangements
A new element of adventure – if we can call it that – seems to have been added to airline travel in Europe by the volcanic eruption in Iceland.
Hopefully it won’t have quite such disastrous consequences as last month, when thousands of passengers were stranded by the closure of so much airspace for days.

Week 15 (17th to 23 of May)
I almost believed that summer was back in Cape Town last week…to be honest; it wasn’t as warm as it used to be in summer, but compared to the past weeks (of rain and more rain) it seemed much warmer. This meant that I could at least wear short-sleeved shirts, watch the sun and look forward to a sunny weekend.

In March of 2010 I was leading a tour through Namibia. One of our destinations was to be Ruacana Falls… I had been there a few times before, so I knew that the falls were dry at this time of the year (well, supposed to be!)… However, even when the falls are dry they are still a sight to behold with beautiful rock formations and of course there is also that ‘quick’ visit to Angola (where you can take your picture with a stone that states exactly where you are) which is always fun!!

Cape Town, one of the World Cup Host Cities, is currently working hard at promoting the stunning destination for the soccer world cup and for holidays in general. And Cape Town is in a mad-rush trying to complete the stadium (final touches) in time for the tournament that will held in June/July. A poster (after rumours of crimes in SA were on the increase) was posted at the entrance of the stadium – the poster informs the public strictly of what is allowed in the arena and what is not. Obviously missiles, rifles, spears etc are prohibited on the pitch! But why are soccer balls also prohibited???? This leads to the question – what are they going to play with?

You’ve probably heard that now is a good time to visit Zimbabwe and take advantage of the excellent prices. But is that a good idea? Is price everything?
Let’s face it, it’s hard to get away from the fact that the political developments of the last few years have been, to say the very least, less than perfect. And there are people who believe that it would be morally questionable to holiday in a country where the government is guilty of significant human rights abuses – abuses that, unfortunately, are still continuing. BUT….

Madagascar the world’s oldest and fourth largest island is as diverse as the heavens are infinite and geographically diverse as it is biologically, creating a treasure haven of spectacular scenery of emerald rainforests, mountains, deserts, mangrove swamps, and dazzling beaches skirting the Indian Ocean and island archipelagos.
Catherine Burmester, with camera and notebook in hand went scouting for creatures.

Blog week 14 (10th – 16th of May)
After what felt like two weeks of continuous rain last weekend was finally sunny again…
In contrast to the beginning of the week…
I don’t know if it was due to the cold and rainy weather but when I wanted to leave for work on Monday morning my car wasn’t to start. The battery was totally flat, not even the small clock beneath the speedometer worked anymore. One hour later the mechanic from AA arrived and jump-started the car. He also noticed that my indicators didn’t work and recommended to go to the garage immediately.

Lesotho, the Kingdom in the Sky, is a land for explorers, photographers, writer, historians and dinosaur hunters.
It’s not quite the Swiss Alps, but Lesotho does have a ski slope in the Maluti Mountains. Okay, so the main slope is just a kilometer long and snow guns work through the night to ensure an even spread of powder, but the Alps are a R10 000 flight away, whereas Afri-Ski Resort, perched at a 3 222m near Oxbow village across the boarder from Fouriesburg, is a 4.5-hour drive from Johannesburg, and four hours from Bloem. Besides snow in June, Lesotho has several things the Alps don’t. For one, it’s a real-life Jurassic Park, with one of the world’s best dinosaur fossils and prints. There’s even a critter named after it: Lesothaurus was a small, plant-eating lizard from the early Jurassic period, and an artist’s impression shows it as an agile green beast with a flat black head like a snake.
