A long belated Madagascar tale…

29 10 2009

Madagascar!I settle myself in a chair under one of the few lights … My feet are off the sand and away from the many small crawly things bound by a desire to sample my soft and succulent human skin, gratefully, I take off my shoes. It’s the first time all week that there’s been any shoes to take off. It’s also the dirtiest I’ve seen my feet for months. My ankles are caked with dust and tainted a funny orangey-brown colour, and my feet are patterned with artful brown dots, I expect a result of the ‘breathing holes’ in my newly inherited shoes. For this last minute inheritance I am almost as grateful as for the relief of finally taking them off…Welcome to the Wild!

Entabeni Guest House – Camps Bay

27 10 2009

Entabeni Guest HouseNot to long ago Entabeni offered Jenman Safaris a ‘night stay’ at their luxurious guest house located in Camps Bay, Cape Town. I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to stay at the Entabeni Guest House on the Saturday night with my boyfriend. The weather was fantastic that Saturday… typical Cape Town summer weather! I had only seen pictures of Entabeni on our capetownsafaris.com website and was very excited to see it in person, and of course stay there.

Rhino AirliftSource: Isimangaliso Website, Images supplied by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife.

Visitors to the Eastern Shores section of iSimangaliso were enthralled in early September by the sight of a black rhino dangling in a net below a helicopter. As part of the WWF Black Rhino Range Expansion programme and Park management strategy, the iSimangaliso Wetland Park Authority contributed two black rhino to be relocated to designated reserves according to the project. This initiative ensures that the populations of the endangered species are steadily re-establishing themselves in suitable private as well as provincial and national reserves.

Aquila Educational – 4 star private game reserve

13 10 2009

Jenman Safaris at AquilaSaturday, 05:30 am! While everybody in Cape Town was still sleeping, four brave women from Jenman African Safaris were wide awake and made their way through the snowy mountains of the Western Cape – ready to face hungry lions, huge elephants and fat hippos!

We were invited to see the Aquila Game Reserve… After a fabulous breakfast (and some sparkling wine at 8am) we boarded our Land Cruiser for a 2 and a half hour game drive. It was great fun and we saw a lot of animals on the drive – particularly the white rhinos were very impressive!

Kayaking in Hermanus with the whales

6 10 2009

Whale watchingI am an intern for Jenman Safaris and I decided that it was about time to go on a little tour! I went with a group of 20 travellers to Hermanus for a whale-watching trip… We departed on Friday evening and spent the night in Kleinmond which is quite close to Hermanus (as we had to leave early the next morning). After an awesome braai that evening we went to bed early to make sure that we would be ready for the following day.
