Charity Challenge… Raising money for breast cancer with Jenman African Safaris!!!!

27 11 2008

A couple of months ago I was approached by my boss, Garth Jenman who gave me the opportunity to help organise and participate in the upcoming Eco Challenge.  An opportunity not to be missed!  I used to be a guide for Jenman African Safaris and then started working in the office in Feb – so needless to say I was excited about getting out and guiding again, even if it was only for 7 days…

This Challenge was organized for the Charity called “Breast Cancer Care” in the United Kingdom.   33 Woman and 3 men were coming to South Africa on a week long treck in aid of this.  All of them were affected by cancer in some way or the other.  The tour was designed to be challenging with a sense of adventure… and at the same time allowing the participants to enjoy the spectacular scenery our country has to offer. For me it was an interesting challenge to organize!

Jenman African Safaris Staff takes some time out and relaxes at Yoga…….. Zzzz!

25 11 2008

As most of us have heard yoga is great for the body, mind and soul… Sounds like a Red-Bull Advert! But as the year is near the end… and the stress levels are calming down… A few of us at the Jenman African Safaris office have taken up Yoga – courtesy of our boss! Somewhere upstairs (where HR and our boss work…) they decided to offer us (downstairs people) the chance to relax and stretch out our bodies by doing yoga in the boardroom once a week during our lunch break! As you can imagine the whole office was ‘buzzing’ with excitement. Everyone wanted to do yoga – well all the girls that is! But with limited space in the boardroom only a few of us where selected….

Jenman African Safaris gets reviewed by a Client… on African Safari Journals!

18 11 2008

During the evening boat ride at Chobe we saw over two hundred elephants at one time. It was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. They would come down the hill and into the river in herds of twenty to fifty and just frolic and play.

There was one young calf that kept plopping down in the mud and getting stuck. The older elephants would help him out and he would run right back in and get stuck again. We watched the sun go down and took some amazing photos of elephants against the setting sun.

Jenman African Safaris went up the West-Coast! No swimming in the Atlantic for Wayne though….

13 11 2008

Having moved to Cape Town fairly recently, I’ve not seen much of the Western Cape and of course was delighted when an opportunity presented itself to join a ‘recce’ trip up the West Coast to have a look at a privately-owned game reserve up there. The trip was planned for the 5th of November, and four of us were lucky enough to escape the office; Garth Jenman, Patti Brockmann from the Jenman Safaris Marketing Department, Hilka Voges from Sales and myself from Operations.

Jenman African Safaris ventures out of Cape Town to the CEDARBERG!

11 11 2008

Very early in the morning, on October 22nd, I made my way to the Jenman African Safaris office to meet up with Garth (the boss!), Patti and Wayne. At 6am we were already on our way to explore the greater Cedarberg region – also known as South Africa’s best kept secret – an area featured in our Cape Town Wildlife Safari, and a region that was up until that day completely unknown to me… This area and tour can be found on most of our websites, including CapeTownSafaris.com!

After a long and picturesque drive we stopped (en-route of course) to have some breakfast… At that time I was already quite fascinated by the gradual but also drastic change in the surroundings.

HOERIKWAGGO TRAILS – The rumours are true… SANParks and Jenman are launching the first complete 7-day hike from Table Mountain to Cape Point!

6 11 2008

Patti – our Local Sales and Marketing representative went on this hoerikwaggo hike a awhile ago! This is what she has to say about the experience….

ON TOP OF THE WORLD!!

… fancy a hike to “the top of the world?” Yep, it can be done – ask me, and it’s definitely one of the things to add to your “bucket list”!!! Hiking up Table Mountain on the famous hoerikwaggo trails has always been something that I have wanted to do, and when the opportunity presented itself I grabbed it with both feet, literally :~) …

Behind the Scenes of the Travel Workshops in PE and East London…from both sides

3 11 2008

I recently joined Lynne Madgin and her team at Travel People for a series of workshops in East London and Port Elizabeth. Lynne, congratulations on a job well done. The workshops were professionally coordinated and organized and well attended – approx. 50 attendees per session. I was representing Jenman African Safaris and our Madagascar Product!

In total, we were 18 presenters ranging from Rovos Rail, to various types of accommodation, tourism associations and tour operators. Each one of us was assigned a table with a number. The attendees had to move from table to table on a rotational basis and we had a total of 8 minutes to strut our stuff, sweat sweat!!   Attendees comprised travel agents, tour operators, corporate’s, car hire, government etc.
