I have been working for a couple of years now for Jenman African Safaris and it has always been a dream of mine to visit Tanzania. Finally, and with kind of short notice, I left for Tanzania for 6 days…

As with all my travels seeming to be a little chaotic, this one had its hick-ups. I caught the 6.45am flight from Cape Town to Johannesburg on a Saturday morning. I was supposed to be at the airport at 6 sharp but I arrived just a little late and the check-in counters were already closed! But the friendly 1time staff made it possible for me to check in, rush through security and board my plane.

Wednesday, 30 April, Johannesburg – Antananarivo:
In the morning, our entire group met in the international departures lounge at Oliver Tambo International Airport where we boarded our SA Airlink flight to Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar…

After a comfortable 3 hour flight and some magnificent aerial views of Madagascar we landed at ‘Tana’ airport. After a 20 minute drive we arrived at the IC Hotel and were met by the friendly staff and a thirst quenching welcome drink. After a short site inspection, we had the rest of the afternoon free and decided to head off into the village near the hotel – with cameras in hand and a string of happy and inquisitive village children in tow!

I departed from Cape Town International Airport at 06h30 for my flight to Johannesburg. On arrival in Johannesburg, I headed to the International terminal. Here I was met by the Safpar team. During this time, the rest of the group was introduced to each other. The group consisted of 10 agents in total: 2 Safpar representatives, Flame of Africa, Wildfrontiers, Maplanga, African Encounters, Detour Africa, Ashanti, Air Holiday and of course myself from Jenman Safaris. When I arrived at the small airport of Livingstone I could immediately feel the change of climate. The air was hot and humid and I felt like I had stepped into another world! From the airport, I was transferred to the Zambezi Waterfront Lodge, which is only a few km’s away. The very next morning we departed from the Zambezi Waterfront at 9am on the dot – we quickly left Livingstone behind us and were off to our Botswana Wildlife Breakaway Adventure!

Packing list – Head torch, GPS, Sense of adventure – Yip – got them all. What else did I need other than a few clothes, a map & some business cards?
Setting off horribly early for a Sunday morning, Garth Jenman & I (Rebecca) flew from Cape Town to Ondangwa, via Windhoek in order to reach Angola for a much discussed educational…

In July this year, I flew from cold and rainy Cape Town to much warmer weather in Zambia. JENMAN AFRICAN SAFARIS runs a 14-day Zambian Adventure Safari, and myself plus 2 Jenman guides were fortunate enough to explore this route in a 6-day safari.

From November 24 to December 6, 2007, three Jenman Safari staff members took some time away from the office to learn about Madagascar first-hand. Hilka, Elana and Rebecca spent most of their time in Madagascar in Nosy Be, Tana, Andasibe, Canal des Panqalanes and Sainte Marie, with Hilka and Rebecca spending more time in Tana and Andasibe while Elana headed to Sainte Marie. The girls also spent an amazing two days on the Jenman dhow.
