Shocking, what do you think about this; the road through the Serengeti will eventually ‘kill the migration’… ?

Wildebeest crossing - TanzaniaSource:http://teyie.com/?p=1039

Tanzania authorities are planning to construct a commercial highway across the Serengeti National Park marking an end to one of the world’s greatest spectacles, the wildebeest migration.

The road will have untold environmental impacts and could sever a critical corridor for the annual migration of hundreds of thousands of wildebeests, zebra and other animals.

Tanzania and Zanzibar Safari – Bart, our clients tells all!

30 07 2009

Elephant in TanzaniaWe like to post safari trips and safari responses on our blog for you to read! Recently, Bart (from Boston USA) returned from Tanzania – our Northern Circuit Camping Tanzania safari… he spent some extra time in Zanzibar! Bart traveled over 10 days over May/June 2009! We asked Bart some general and popular safari questions…. Have a look below:

Where did you go? Which national parks did you visit?
I went to Northern Tanzania & Zanzibar with Jenman African Safaris.  I booked a version of their Tanzanian Northern Circuit safari, but I changed it a little bit to make the most of the time we had.  We visited Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, the Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater.  We spent a few nights in Zanzibar to end off the holiday.

Stone Town, Zanzibar!

23 06 2009

We got lost on our first day in Stone Town, and our sense of direction did not improve the next day, or the day after that.

Zanzibar is still the best-kept secret in the Indian Ocean, with fascinating history and magnificent beaches. An archipelago made up of Unguja and Pemba Islands and several islets, Zanzibar is located some 40 kilometers from the Tanzanian coast. The archipelago is characterized by beautiful, sandy beaches with fringing coral reefs, and the magical Stone Town – said to be the only functioning ancient town in East Africa.

Climbing Kilimanjaro Summit – Happy 27th Birthday Matthew!

12 09 2008

Basically, WE LOVED IT! The climb up Kilimanjaro was an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime experience. We all made the summit and even on Matthew’s 27th birthday – how special – so we sang Happy Birthday to him on the rooftop of Africa. Our guides – Bruno and Christopher – were excellent and really encouraging when we needed it most. I cannot say enough nice things about them. However, the team of porters was also wonderful – very supportive, very nice. As we were a small group, we got to know them fairly well and had a couple of really nice sessions of singing and dancing together, especially on the last morning. The porters and cook, etc. also sang to Matthew. Seeing their smiling faces every day, even when carrying the heavy loads, was amazing.

The Heights of Kilimanjaro!

1 08 2008

A Jenman African Safaris’ employee Debbie braved the heights of Mount Kilimanjaro, situated in the Kilimanjaro National Park in Tanzania. Mount Kilimanjaro, a now-dormant volcano, rises to 5895 metres and is both the highest point in Africa and one of the highest mountains in the world.

The climb takes six days and the routes can vary, according to your preference. Debbie says that one should be careful which route one chooses, as each has its own distinct advantages and disadvantages. Read the rest of this entry »

Jambo Tanzania!

29 07 2008

I have been working for a couple of years now for Jenman African Safaris and it has always been a dream of mine to visit Tanzania. Finally, and with kind of short notice, I left for Tanzania for 6 days…

As with all my travels seeming to be a little chaotic, this one had its hick-ups. I caught the 6.45am flight from Cape Town to Johannesburg on a Saturday morning. I was supposed to be at the airport at 6 sharp but I arrived just a little late and the check-in counters were already closed! But the friendly 1time staff made it possible for me to check in, rush through security and board my plane.
